How fit or experienced will I need to be?
We are able to cater for confident beginner cyclists and above, who have some experience riding on roads. A good basic level of fitness will be helpful to get the most out of the weekend. However, whatever your current level of fitness the weekend will cater to your needs and help you build towards becoming a more confident road or sportive rider.

What kind of bike will I need?
You will need a roadworthy road or hybrid bike.  All routes will be on tarmac roads and there will be a choice of rides of varying mileage available each day. We recommend you check or service your bike prior to the event. We will have a small cycling spares and repair service available throughout the weekend, please note this is not included in the course cost.

I have special dietary requirements, can you accommodate this?
Yes, that’s no problem, just contact us with details of any special requirements, and we will make arrangements for you.

Can I get to the weekend by public transport?
Yes, and we can organise pick ups on Friday afternoon if you need assistance. The nearest train stations to Lea Green are:

  • Cromford Station  – 2.5 miles
  • Matlock Station – 5.5 miles

Is the weekend open to children?
We are sorry but the weekend program is not suitable for anyone under the age of 16.

Is the weekend open to non-riding friends or partners who don’t want to ride?
Yes, we have a low cost option for non-riding guests. Lea Green is a great place to relax away from the riding activities and a perfect base for an enjoyable weekend break. There are spa and leisure facilities nearby as well as walks, sightseeing and historic buildings, shopping and market towns to wander around (You may want to upgrade to non shared bathrooms and bedrooms to secure the goodwill of your partner!).

Will we be split into groups?
We will split groups into ability levels during the weekend to ensure you are riding with others of similar confidence, fitness or ability levels. Our experienced ride leaders will be there to ensure no one is struggling to keep up with their group or feeling held back.

Will my bike be secure overnight?
All bikes will be stored in a secured building on site at Lea Green.

What should I wear?
Even though our weekends take place between June and early August anyone who rides regularly in the Peak District area will tell you that that could mean a wide range of conditions from hot and  sunny to gale-force winds, and sometimes both! . We recommend you pack a wide variety of suitable clothing and a change of gear for each day to ensure you will be putting on fresh dry kit to start the day with.

For more information check out our suggested kit list in the download section below!

Will there be mechanical support on the rides?
Yes, on the rides we will have mobile support to assist with any problems or to collect riders and bikes should the situation arise. We will also have a mechanic at the weekend available to help you with any issues before or after rides (please note any service or repairs that may be needed are the responsibility of the individual and are not included in the cost of the weekend), plus there will be a small parts shop available for last minute top ups to equipment or unforeseen calamities.

Do I have to wear a helmet?
Yes! Whilst we know there are arguments for and against helmet use, our cycling risk assessment and insurance means we need all participants to wear a suitable cycling helmet whilst riding on our organised programmes.

Where can I park my car?
Lea Green has ample free car parking for guests.

What is the timetable for the weekend?
We will publish a detailed timetable prior to the weekend available to download from our website.

Can I bring my own food and drink?
You are welcome to bring your own drinks and snacks but please be sensible if you bring any alcohol to the centre. For those of you who would like a social drink there is a small and friendly pub locally.

How do I make sure that I am staying in a room with my friend who has booked separately?
There is a space for you to note your preference for sharing rooms when you book. If you have forgotten to do this, please e-mail us with the details of your friends or group and we will do our best to accommodate you.
