Triathlon Camps

Road bike at Lea GreenTriathlon is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK and across the world, and there are some very good reasons for this. The health and fitness benefits from combining the three disciplines are becoming more widely recognised.  The sport has a relaxed, warm and friendly atmosphere where everyone is welcomed and encouraged to take on their own challenge, whether that’s to finish the course, or set a new personal best, triathlon really does have something to offer everyone.

Who are our Tri-camps aimed at?
These weekends are aimed at beginner to intermediate triathletes, either looking to try triathlon for the first time or maybe to use it to improve performance and fitness.

Maybe you’ve already tried a few sprints or other races and are looking to improve in one discipline or are looking to train and improve on your overall times. These weekends provide an opportunity to build your skills and fitness, get one-to-one advice and coaching and undertake some structured training in the fantastic Peak District area.

All this takes place in a friendly and fun atmosphere!  If this sounds good, then these weekends are for you.

How fit or experienced will I need to be?
We are able to cater for everyone. A good basic level of fitness will be helpful to get the most out of the weekend. However, whatever your current level of fitness the weekend will cater to your needs and help you build towards becoming a more confident triathlete – runner, rider or swimmer.

Will we be split into groups?
We will split groups into ability levels during the weekend to ensure you are training with others of similar confidence, fitness or ability levels. Our experienced coaches and instructors will be there to ensure no one is struggling to keep up with their group or feeling held back. (Subject to requests, if there are sufficient numbers we will look to provide a women’s only training group).

What should I wear?
Even though our weekends take place between June and early August anyone who trains and rides regularly in the Peak District area will tell you that that could mean a wide range of conditions from hot and sunny to gale-force winds, and sometimes both! We recommend you pack a wide variety of suitable clothing and a change of gear for each day to ensure you will be putting on fresh dry kit to start the day with.

What kind of bike will I need?
You will need a roadworthy road or hybrid bike.  All routes will be on tarmac roads and there will be a choice of rides. We recommend you check or service your bike prior to the event.

Will there be mechanical support on the rides?
Yes, on the rides we will have mobile support to assist with any problems or to collect riders and bikes should the situation arise. We will also have a mechanic at the weekend available to help you with any issues before or after rides (please note any service or repairs that may be needed are the responsibility of the individual and are not included in the cost of the weekend see above).

Bike maintenance?
We will have a small cycling spares and repair service available throughout the weekend and a mechanic on hand, please note any repairs are not included in the course cost. However, costs are very reasonable and start at £5 for an MOT and bike check including any minor adjustments needed.  If you do live in fear of the dreaded puncture or are someone for whom basic maintenance is a dark art and a scary thing, please contact us for information on our cycle maintenance workshops these run at dates to suit throughout the year and include women only groups and specially designed basic courses including ‘repairs on the fly for tri’!

I have special dietary requirements, can you accommodate this?
Yes, that’s no problem, just contact us with details of any special requirements, and we will make arrangements for you.

Can I get to the weekend by public transport?
Yes, and we can organise pick-ups on Friday afternoon if you need assistance. The nearest train stations to Lea Green are:

  • Cromford Station  – 2.5 miles
  • Matlock Station – 5.5 miles

Is the weekend open to non-participant friends or partners who don’t want to train?
Yes, we have a low cost option for non-participant guests. Lea Green is a great place to relax away from the riding activities and a perfect base for an enjoyable weekend break. There are spa and leisure facilities nearby as well as walks, sightseeing and historic buildings, shopping and market towns to wander around (You may want to upgrade to non-shared bathrooms and bedrooms to secure the goodwill of your partner!).

Is the weekend open to children?
We’re sorry but these weekend training programs are not available for anyone under the age of 16.

Do I have to wear a helmet?
Yes! Whilst we know there are arguments for and against helmet use, our cycling risk assessment and insurance means we need all participants to wear a suitable cycling helmet whilst riding on our organised programmes.

Where can I park my car?
Lea Green has ample free car parking for guests.

Will my bike be secure overnight?

What is the timetable for the weekend?
We will publish a detailed timetable prior to the weekend available to download from our website.

Can I bring my own food and drink?
You are welcome to bring your own drinks and snacks but please be sensible if you bring any alcohol to the Centre. For those of you who like a social drink or two there is a small and friendly pub locally.

How do I make sure that I am staying in a room with my friend who has booked separately?
There is a space for you to note your preference for sharing rooms when you book. If you have forgotten to do this, please e-mail us with the details of your friends or group and we will do our best to accommodate you.
